Lillian R.
Lillian R. reflects a magnetic
personality that replicates the grace and wonder of
the aging process. She is 81 years old, grew up in
Vermont and has resided in Santa Monica since 1994.
Prior to settling in Santa Monica, she lived in Syracuse,
New York where she received her undergraduate education,
married, and moved to Santa Barbara, California with
her husband and daughter. She also lived in Trinidad
where her husband worked as a contract Economic Development
Engineer. After a year in Trinidad, the family returned
to Santa Barbara where her husband passed away at
the age of 41. Although this was a devastating time
in her life, with strength and determination she was
able to move forward to make a life for herself and
daughter. She then relocated to the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor where both she and her daughter
pursued advanced studies; her daughter as a law student
and Lillian working as a Dormitory House Mother until
she completed a Masters Degree in Gerontology.
She
has used the vans since 1994 and considers the service
to be a boutique operation because they [WISE Dial-A-Ride
vans] go out of their way to be there for you.
San Diego, California became the next
home for Lillian where she established a career in
Real Estate until relocating to Los Angeles to assist
her daughter and two grandchildren until her daughter
completed her studies as a Clinical Psychologist.
Her daughter has since become well known and honored
as a top book writer of children's stories.
As Lillian describes herself,
she states that her greatest joy has been and still
is her career as a mother and grandmother. She says
that she is doing what she can to circumvent the aging
process, but with less success than being a good mother
and grandmother. As Lillian begins to experience a
myriad of the physical limitations and ailments due
to the aging process, she says that having the WISE
Dial-A-Ride vans available, makes it possible to maintain
her dignity and independence. She has used the vans
since 1994 and considers the service to be a boutique
operation because they go out of their way to be there
for you.
