Program Description Mobility is an important element of independence and quality of life. One's mobility is, to a large degree, tied to the ability to drive an automobile, which allows us greater freedom to choose where to live, work, travel and recreate. As people age, their ability to safely drive an automobile may be compromised by a variety of functional impairments and loss of mobility strongly correlates to a decline in socialization and an increase in physical problems. The WISE Transportation Program provides alternative transportation resource information, mobility education, and hosts AARP Driver Safety classes. In collaboration with the City of Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, the WISE/Santa Monica Dial-A-Ride program offers transportation options. Low cost, shared-ride curb-to curb van transportation is available for Santa Monica residents who are at least 60 years of age and persons with disabilities who are 18 years of age or older.
