Program Description

Would you like to make a difference in your community? RSVP Volunteers enrich their own lives by serving the community. They stretch their abilities and learn new skills. They become more active and involved in their communities.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a federally funded program that recruits older adult volunteers and places them in positions in the community where they can contribute their time and skills in making a difference.

RSVP volunteers work in a range of community service areas including local hospitals, police departments, schools, day care centers, museums, libraries, colleges, and senior centers. Volunteers can contribute as many hours as they wish. Each assignment is based on the skills, talents, and preferences of the volunteer, so placements are tailor-made to the individual.

Special WISE RSVP opportunities:

Fraud Fighters work on a number of projects to help the community protect their economic security. Each week a group of volunteers gathers to provide peer-counseling outreach via telephone to victims of telemarketing and internet fraud.

Volunteers work to educate older Californians about investment fraud in the state funded Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF) program.

America Reads tutors work with children at four elementary schools in Santa Monica, at the library and several after school sites. This corps of volunteers helps several hundred children meet state literacy standards and improve their overall school performance.

Tax Counselors for the Elderly work with low and moderate income seniors to help them file Federal and State Tax Returns. Each year this dedicated group of volunteers serves over 3,000 seniors.
