Volunteer Opportunities

Fraud Fighters work on a number of projects to help the community protect their economic security. Each week a group of senior volunteers gathers to provide peer-counseling outreach via telephone to victims of telemarketing and internet fraud. Training of senior volunteers is provided in partnership with AARP, the FBI, the Postal Inspector and AT&T.

Volunteers work to educate older Californians about investment fraud in the state funded Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF) program. Each SAIF volunteer is trained to educate the public on investment scams and prevention techniques.

America Reads tutors work with children at four elementary schools in Santa Monica, at the library and several after school sites. This corps of specially trained volunteers helps several hundred children meet state literacy standards and improve their overall school performance.

Tax Counselors for the Elderly work with low and moderate-income seniors to help them file Federal and State Tax Returns. Each year this dedicated group of volunteers serves over 3,000 seniors. Training of the volunteer tax counselors is provided by AARP in January of each year.
