Financial Planning and Counseling

Tax Counseling. This program is sponsored by AARP. Each year experienced volunteers work with over 3,000 low and moderate-income seniors to help them file Federal and State Tax Returns. To schedule an appointment between the first week in January and April 1 each year, please email finance@wiseseniors.org.

Insurance Counseling. In collaboration with the Center for Healthcare Rights, WISE offers one-on-one appointments with a trained senior volunteer in the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP). These volunteers help clients understand their health coverage options under Medicare and Medi-Cal and evaluate long-term care insurance offerings. For an appointment, email finance@wiseseniors.org.

Financial Planning. Licensed Certified Financial Planners (CFP) provide free one-on-one counseling sessions to low to moderate income individuals. Planned Giving. WISE offers free one-on-one counseling sessions with an experienced estate planning attorney. This professional will advise in all areas of estate planning including setting up a plan, reviewing already existing plans, estate and probate taxes, beneficiary designations and assistance in philanthropic planning. Homeowner's and Renter's Assistance. WISE assists seniors and adults with disabilities to complete the paperwork to claim renter's or homeowner's assistance payments from the State of California.
