Maria B.
Maria B. is a 77 year-old woman
who lives alone and is isolated. Originally from Germany,
Maria moved to California years ago, but both of her
children later returned to Europe.
Maria's leaky roof and broken heater
fixed free of charge...
Maria's mobile home, in which she had lived for twenty-five years, needed a lot of repairs in order to remain a safe place for her. WISE Care Management referred Maria to the Handyworker Program to address the immediate needs of her home. This nonprofit program helped Maria get her leaky roof and a broken heater fixed free of charge and also helped with her plumbing problems.
While Maria continues to be fairly independent,
her circumstances changed when she fell and broke her
wrist. WISE was able to help by arranging for a temporary
caregiver while Maria was in a cast. Maria expressed
thankfulness for the caregiver who helped her with shopping,
transportation, cooking and cleaning while her arm was
healing.
Maria hopes to remain living independently for many years to come.
