Leona E.
Leona was an active and independent 90 year-old who had been living in her studio apartment overlooking the ocean for the last ten years. When she was diagnosed with legal blindness and began experiencing more falls, Leona began to worry that it may be time to go into a nursing home. After working with WISE Care Management, her anxiety immediately lessened once she was reassured that she could maintain her independence with some minor adjustments.
With just a few changes,
Leona's anxiety has all but disappeared
Through the help of a WISE Care
Manager, Leona obtained an emergency response system
that she wears on her wrist like a watch. She states
that she feels much safer now. She continues to walk
to the store to do her grocery shopping and does her
own meal preparation. However, now Leona is planning
ahead for when she will need to hire an in-home caregiver.
Leona purchased new glasses which she says are helping
her see better despite her macular degeneration. The
Care Manager also helped Leona purchase a shower chair.
Leona felt shaky and uncertain in showering alone, but
now she feels confident.
With a just a few changes, Leona's anxiety has all but
disappeared. She laughs and smiles often as she praises
WISE for the help she received. Leona continues to paint
wonderful pictures in her home and hopes to remain there
a long, long time.
