Woo Jung
Koreatown Center
Woo Jung was born in Seoul, Korea. She learned how to
sew at age 13 and this would prove to be beneficial
throughout her life.
Woo Jung credits the Center for her increased
energy
In 1972, Woo Jung, her husband
and their two sons immigrated to Brazil. There she worked
as a seamstress, cutting designs and doing piecework
for wholesale stores. While in Brazil, the health of
both Woo Jung and her husband deteriorated, and in 1993
her husband died of cancer. Woo Jung developed diabetes
and problems with her vision and, due to the severity
of her health problems, she decided in 2001 to migrate
to California for better medical treatment and to be
near her sisters who lived there.
Living alone in senior housing in downtown Los Angeles,
Woo Jung was isolated by her inability to speak English.
Her health was poor and she had limited energy. Woo
Jung was accepted into the WISE Adult Day Support Center
program, which is specifically tailored for Korean speaking
seniors. Woo Jung has taken full advantage of the English
lessons, American cultural experiences and healthy living
education at the Center. Woo Jung credits the Center
for her increased energy and believes the yoga class
has been extremely beneficial to her. She feels much
better.
