Turusew & Mary
Adult Day Services
When Mary developed Alzheimer's in 2001 and then had several small strokes,Turusew was unable to leave her mother at home alone. Turusew had to work in order to provide for herself, her mother and her own two children. She could not afford to pay someone to care for her mother, yet did not want to institutionalize Mary. Fortunately, WISE Adult Day Service Center accepted Mary on a scholarship basis. Turusew now drops her mother off at WISE before she goes to work five days per week and picks her up on the way home. Turusew has peace of mind knowing that Mary is being cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. "WISE is a godsend I am so grateful to the loving staff and to your donors who have made this possible," she said.
"My mother has Alzheimer's, and I can't leave her home alone all day while I'm at work. I don't want to put my mother in a nursing home; I want her to live with me."
- Turusew, 2003
