Sponsor a Senior

Many clients in our day care program are low-income, underserved seniors whose families often have no other available means for securing adult day care. About 80% of seniors participating in our day care program are not able to pay even our modest program fees. WISE is committed to continuing to serve lower income clients where the fee is not affordable yet where the need is often the greatest.

One such client is Mary G. She and her caregiver daughter, Turusew W., immigrated to the US in the 1990s from Ethiopia and have very limited means. In 2001, Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and subsequently suffered several strokes. As her mother's disease progressed, Turusew, who has two young children and a full-time job, found it progressively harder to care for Mary in her home and maintain her job. The stress of working full time as well as taking care of her mother was so great that Turusew's performance and attendance at work were suffering and she was in danger of losing her job. If she lost her employment, she would have no other source of funds. Based on this family's clear need for day care, Mary was accepted as a client in our Adult Day Services Program. Her daughter now drops her off at our day care center at 8:00 AM on her way to work and picks her up at 5:45 PM on her way home. She also attends the caregiver support groups we offer to meet with others who are facing the challenges of providing care of an older adult in their homes.

Your gift can help us ensure that others like Mary are safe and happy during the day.
