Program Description Caring for a loved one who is elderly and frail or has Alzheimer's, other forms of dementia, Parkinson's disease or the vestiges of a stroke can be an exhausting task. Often family members are left with feelings of uncertainty and helplessness about their role as caregivers and are overwhelmed by the competing demands of daily life, earning a living and providing fulltime care. For 21 years, the WISE Adult Day Service Center has been there to help. The Center, located at 1510 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica, is open 11 hours a day (7:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday so that caregivers can go to work, perform other tasks or take a much-needed break knowing that their loved one is enjoying the day in a safe, welcoming environment. The caring and compassionate staff is trained to work with those with physical or cognitive impairments and a plan of care is tailored to the needs of each client. Day Services can be an excellent solution for both caregiver and loved one. A recent study showed that 87-96% of day care clients have either improved or maintained their function, helping keep them out of the hospital or nursing facility. Families report that many clients of day care are more alert and more social, have lower rates of depression and improved sleeping patterns, and demonstrate improved physical ability.
